Court admits it has no housing alternatives for residents of the former prison
The municipal government has set up an email address to seek external resources due to a lack of its own alternatives.
PalmThe Palma City Council is still awaiting a response from the institutions to which it has sent official communications regarding the crisis caused by the eviction of the former Palma prison, where more than 200 people are registered as living. At the press conference following the Governing Board meeting, spokesperson Mercedes Celeste admitted that they do not have permanent solutions, but emphasized that they will be able to provide "temporary accommodation" to all those who voluntarily participate in the eviction process.
Celeste has said that the City Council does not have the possibility of enabling spaces for more than 200 people on a permanent basisBut as Councillor Javier Bonet said last week, "the City Council will temporarily support all people."
However, he said that there has still been no response from the Bishopric, the State, or to the email address they set up this Wednesday. "All channels remain open," he emphasized. The email address is alojamientobienestar@palma.esso that all social entities and individuals who have available resources can communicate them through this channel, thus facilitating collaboration.
Letter on the EAPN network
This Wednesday, Palma City Council also sent a letter to all third sector entities and associations represented in the EAPN network, with the aim of providing the people residing in the former prison with "urgent and provisional solutions, given a situation that requires an immediate and coordinated response," said First Deputy Mayor Javier Bonet.
In parallel, the municipal Social Services department maintains constant contact with the Mallorcan Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS), the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Balearic Housing Institute (Ibavi), within the framework of a "close inter-institutional collaboration" that allows exploring all possible solutions at a legal level and "We are in contact with some third sector organizations, but to date no entity has made a single residential solution available," Bonet admitted.
Celeste denies any connection to her replacement in the Planning Scheme
Furthermore, at Thursday's press conference, Mercedes Celeste distanced her replacement from the Public Service area, which Last week it was handed over to councilor Llorenç BauzáRegarding the problems encountered in approving the new Local Police reorganization plan, he explained, "It was a decision reached by consensus and discussed at length, over several weeks, with the mayor, who holds all the relevant authority."
"For me, it has nothing to do with it. But that doesn't mean that the planning had reached a point where we couldn't find a way out, either legally or technically, but it has nothing to do with it," he emphasized.
Celeste has said that from now on she can focus on the areas she oversees, without diverting attention to the Civil Service, which "was very time-consuming," and will emphasize Heritage, the area where "major projects" must be launched before the end of the legislative term. She specifically mentioned beach concessions, the slaughterhouse contract, and the management of newsstands, among others.
