The Balearic government expresses its support for Venezuelan residents
PalmThe Balearic Islands government expressed its "prudence" on Saturday regarding the events in Venezuela and voiced its support for Venezuelan residents in the islands, after the United States announced the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores as part of a military operation that included bombing.
In a message on social media, President Marga Prohens assured that the Balearic government is "closely monitoring the situation" and is "in contact with and available to Venezuelans residing in the Islands." Prohens added that she shares their hope that these events will mark "the end of the criminal dictatorship that has deprived them of their rights and freedoms" and pave the way for "a democratic transition in Venezuela."
The Venezuelan government today denounced a series of airstrikes carried out by the US against "territory and civilian and military population," which they consider a "very serious military aggression." For his part, US President Donald Trump announced that he will offer more details about the operation at a press conference in Palm Beach, Florida, at 5:00 PM (peninsular time).
Francina Armengol calls for calm amid the crisis in Venezuela
The Speaker of the Congress of Deputies, Francina Armengol, stated this Saturday that she continues to follow the situation in Venezuela "with concern" and called for "de-escalation, calm, and responsibility." The Venezuelan government has denounced a series of airstrikes carried out by the United States against "territory and civilian and military population" in Caracas and the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira, and has described them as a "very serious military aggression." In this context, Armengol emphasized in a message to X the need for human rights, respect for international law, and the defense of peace to prevail.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation confirmed that it is closely monitoring the situation, in coordination with European partners and countries in the region. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced that the US military has captured President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, who have reportedly been taken out of the country. Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has demanded proof of life for the couple, as the government has no record of their whereabouts.
