The Government sanctions Núria Riera for her absenteeism with a minor offense.
The Executive assures that the procedure has been instructed by officials who have worked "with absolute independence."
PalmThe Ministry of Labor, Public Service and Social Dialogue has indicated this Thursday that the case against the PP spokesperson in the Consell de Mallorca, Núria Riera, for alleged irregularities in the fulfillment of the terms of her employment compatibility was resolved on August 26 with a warning for a minor offense.
After this Thursday Mallorca Diary The Regional Ministry announced that it had issued a disciplinary warning to Riera for having left his post for participating in a radio talk show without the necessary prior authorization. The Regional Ministry emphasized that the procedure was conducted by government officials who worked "with absolute independence and in accordance with current regulations regarding the civil service."
According to the Regional Ministry, during the procedure, Riera provided documentation justifying some of his absences due to his representative duties. The investigating judge identified three potential minor infractions for participating in radio debates during working hours, which he considered to be outside his representative duties. However, of these, two had already expired before the case was opened, and therefore, a case was opened for a single minor infraction.
The Government, through the General Directorate of Civil Service, has emphasized that during the process, it has acted "rigorously, as it would with any civil servant" of the Autonomous Community. Furthermore, it recalls that, when it learned of the information that appeared in the press about Riera, it also acted "as it would with any civil servant of the community, opening a confidential information procedure on February 18, which led to the opening of a file on July 25 and which was resolved on August 26 with a reprimand for a minor offense."
The PSIB believes that Riera's situation is "unsustainable."
The Socialist Federation of Mallorca believes that the reprimand issued in Riera's case, for alleged irregularities in compliance with the terms of her employment compatibility, leaves the PP spokesperson in an "unsustainable" political situation.
"There is nothing left to expect but her dismissal as spokesperson, her resignation from her position as councilor and the return of the amounts of public money illegally collected during the 26 months of her term, when she has accumulated the entire salary of a civil servant with 75% of her salary," the socialists said in a statement. The spokesperson for the PSIB in the Consell, Catalina Cladera, has emphasized that the report that was known this Thursday confirms that Riera was absent from her job on "repeated occasions" to carry out political work that was not included within the law.
Cladera considers it proven that Riera not only did not give up part of her salary as a civil servant to dedicate herself to the position of spokesperson, but did the opposite, that the island president, Llorenç Galmés, increased her dedication to 75% of her salary. Riera, the socialist has indicated, has made compatible the receipt of two public salaries, which means that two public administrations have paid a total salary equivalent to a 14-hour workday for five days a week, approximately 130,000 euros per year for a 175% workday, "making Riera the highest-paid politician in the Balearic Islands, well above the Balearic Islands."
