The Government wants to install walls of dignity in the municipalities affected by the bombings of the Civil War

PalmaThe Government announced this Tuesday that it wants to install walls of dignity in the municipalities of the Archipelago where there were victims of bombings during the Civil War. Within this framework, it has sent official notices to the town councils of Artà, Inca, Santa Maria del Camí, ses Salines, Sóller, Maó, and Eivissa with the necessary information to begin working together on the installation of this commemorative element.

The initiative stems from the study on the victims of bombings in the Balearic Islands during the Civil War, which has made it possible to identify and document 152 fatalities: 97 in Mallorca, 29 in Menorca, and 26 in Eivissa. The study has compiled information from different documentary and archival sources, and has made it possible to identify the victims and the locations where the bombings occurred.

The Balearic Executive wants the memory of the victims not to remain solely in archives and historical studies, but also to have a physical space in the municipalities where the events took place. To make this possible, it has offered the town councils collaboration to carry out the commemorative action, so that each municipality can determine the most suitable location: it could be a place directly related to the bombing or another space that guarantees the dignity and visibility of the memorial, as well as accessibility. The installation will be coordinated with each municipal corporation.

The initiative continues the Wall of Dignity inaugurated in Palma on July 27, 2026, and allows for the expansion of recognition to other municipalities in Mallorca, Menorca, and Eivissa linked to the victims documented in the study.

With this action, the Government aims to contribute to preserving the memory of the 152 documented victims and to ensure that their memory is also present in the public spaces of the municipalities where the events occurred.
