BalearicsThe Ministry of Families, Social Welfare, and Dependency Care will allocate €1,620,000 in direct aid to people affected by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) during 2026 and 2027. The aim is to finance the comprehensive care and support required by this disease, as defined by the disease guidelines. The aid will consist of a monthly benefit of €1,000 for each person diagnosed with ALS. The Ministry states that this support program aims to contribute to improving the quality of life of patients, as well as their families and caregivers, in the face of the social, health, employment, and economic impact of the disease. The Government launched this aid program in 2024 to cover the costs associated with care and to respond to the needs of the ALS community and their families. This measure aims to strengthen the coverage of the System for Autonomy and Care for Dependency and support the needs that arise throughout the progression of the disease. The Director General of Care for Dependency and People with Disabilities, María Castro, highlighted that this call for applications has positioned the Balearic Islands as a pioneering territory and represents "a step forward in providing dignified care to people with ALS and their families." In the previous call for applications, corresponding to the years 2024 and 2025, the Ministry of Families and Social Affairs granted these subsidies to a total of 93 people in the Islands, with the same monthly amount.
