For the first time, the highest authority of the Felanitx City Council refuses to pass under the emblematic canopy with which the El Cosso group each year awaits political authorities at the exit of the mass in honor of Saint Agustí, in the parish of Sant Alfons. Mayoress Catalina Soler Carreixeta, along with her deputy mayor and government partner Jaume Monserrat (El Pi), have been escorted by Local Police agents with the aim of finding them an alternative exit and avoiding having to suffer the 'inclemencies' of the group.
A few weeks ago, in a municipal plenary session, it was precisely Monserrat who denounced that "one cannot buy a new shirt for Saint Agustí, because then they throw everything at you, with cups that who knows what they contain inside", referring to the water, beer, straw, and different liquids that, over the years, attendees have thrown at the local and regional political delegation.
The videoSpeaking of this, this week El Cosso published a video on their social networks alluding to the matter and proposing a solution: full-body pink raincoats, with each councilor's name and a number, as if they were members of a sports team.
The raincoats were left in front of the doors of the Town Hall and today they have been brought back to the exit of mass, where, after the Cavallets dance, they have been offered to the councilors who have wanted to pass under the canopy and the 'quica', pagan symbols of the Sant Agustí festivities. Those who have been at the day's festival have been the people of Manacor and candidates for the presidency of the Consell de Mallorca, Miquel Oliver (mayor of Manacor) and the socialist Amanda Fernández.
