The PSIB of Mallorca launches the program for 2027 with housing and saturation as central axes
Amanda Fernández demands a change of model in the face of the rising cost of housing, mobility problems and tourist pressure on the island
PalmaThe socialist federation of Mallorca set in motion this Saturday the political machinery ahead of the May 2027 elections with the Political Council held today in Lloret de Vistalegre. The meeting served to initiate the process of drafting the PSIB's electoral program, which will have housing policies, the fight against overcrowding, and climate change as its main axes.
The meeting was led by the FSM secretary-general and candidate for the presidency of the Council of Mallorca, Amanda Fernández, with the support of the Lloret socialist group, the secretary-general, Xisco Arrom, and the mayor, Sofia Alonso.
Fernández defined the meeting as the starting point of a new political cycle for the socialists of Mallorca. The candidate warned that, despite the wealth generated on the island, there are increasingly more difficulties in accessing housing, while families live in precarious situations and young people choose to leave.
To this situation, she added the problems of overcrowding, traffic jams, and the time that thousands of people lose every day to go to work. According to Fernández, three years after the arrival of the PP to the Government and the Council of Mallorca, these problems still remain without a sufficient response.
"Mallorca cannot take it anymore"
The socialist leader has vindicated the mobilizations this summer in defense of Es Trenc and against saturation as a message from the citizenry. Fernández has asserted that "Mallorca can take no more" and has accused the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, and the President of the Council, Llorenç Galmés, of governing "as if these limits did not exist".
For the socialists, housing, saturation, and mobility will be the great challenges of the project they will develop over the coming months. Fernández has defended the need for a Council of Mallorca that "dares to say enough" and that places the interests of the people who live on the island at the center.
The Political Council has approved launching an Insular and Municipalist Political Conference, which will be the first step to drafting the socialist electoral program. The process will be open to civil society and the citizenry, with the will, according to Fernández, to build the project by "listening to every town and every neighborhood".
The candidate has also vindicated her project to preside over the Council of Mallorca. "I want to be president so that living in Mallorca is not a privilege," she stated. Among her objectives, she has placed improving public transport, protecting the territory, caring for the elderly, and facilitating young people being able to build their future on the island.
The political council of the socialist federation of Mallorca has brought together representatives of the socialist groups from all over the island and had the presence of the PSIB candidate for the presidency of the Government, Rosario Sánchez.
More than 300 people remember Joan Gaspar Vallori
At the same time, more than 300 people participated on Friday in Alcúdia in a tribute to Joan Gaspar Vallori, who died in April at 41 years of age. Vallori had been the island director of Tourism and a PSIB councilor in Alcúdia.
The event brought together family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors who had crossed paths with him during his professional and political career. One of the most emotional moments was the reading of a letter written by his friends.
