Thousands of people show solidarity with Ceuta in Palma shouting "Pedro Sánchez, son of a bitch"

PalmaThousands of people gathered this Wednesday at the Plaça de Cort in Palma in an event called by the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, in solidarity with Ceuta. The event, which took place at the Plaça de Cort coinciding with Ceuta Day, turned into an outcry against the Spanish government with "Pedro Sánchez, son of a bitch" (in Spanish) and "Pedro Sánchez, resign" as the leitmotifs. Among the attendees, constant shouts and insults against the head of the Spanish executive were heard, while numerous participants displayed Spanish flags, some of them Francoist. The demonstration began at 8:00 p.m. and was called within the framework of the mobilizations in support of Ceuta held throughout the State. According to Local Police figures, 19,000 people participated, while the National Police indicate that there were 8,000.

The President of the Government, Marga Prohens, has accompanied the Mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, who had made a call to defend the "territorial integrity of Spain" and had warned that what happened in Ceuta had to serve "as a warning". The mobilization comes one month after the massive entry of more than 70,000 migrants into the autonomous city at the end of July. At Cort, there was also a group of people from the far-right organization Identitas, who have lashed out against the State of the autonomies and against Philip VI, whom they have described as a "coward".

The municipal music band played the Spanish anthem twice, which received loud ovations, and the anthem of Ceuta. The participants also sang Que viva España, by Manolo Escobar. "Christian Spain, not Muslim", "it is not immigration, it is an invasion", "Ceuta is not for sale", were some of the slogans heard at Cort, where someone also took the opportunity to shout "Long live Franco!". Members of the Government and the Cort government team did not miss the event, and although Prohens remarked that the call had no political color, Martínez criticized the absence of the left. There were also representatives from Vox, such as Jorge Campos and Fulgencio Coll.

Jaime Martínez was in charge of reading the manifesto and proclaimed that "Ceuta is not alone" and that the territorial integrity of Spain "is not up for negotiation".

For her part, Marga Prohens has accused the Spanish government of having abandoned Ceuta and warned that what has happened in the autonomous city "could happen tomorrow in the Balearic Islands".

Once the event ended, the protesters did not leave Cort Square and continued with their slogans. The City Council played music, and the attendees complained by shouting "it's a protest, not a party". Thus, "Pedro Sánchez, son of a bitch" was heard again, while the song Superestrella, by Aitana, was playing.
