UGT replies to Cort regarding Son Reus: "The negligences are repeated"

PalmaThe cross-accusations regarding the controversy of the Son Reus municipal animal shelter continue. After Palma City Council described some of the reported irregularities as an "isolated incident" or "false", UGT Public Services has once again maintained that the negligence at the center is "repeated".

According to the union, the joint transport of live and dead animals "has been a continuous practice at the center until the moment of the public complaint, and not an isolated incident". UGT explains that, if it has not made public "a larger volume" of graphic material regarding this and other situations, it is out of "strict responsibility" towards the center's staff and to avoid possible administrative measures or pressure on the workers.

Regarding the breakdown of the cooling equipment, UGT insists that "there is documentary evidence of the incident". The union maintains that the images provided by the City Council correspond to "subsequent actions that do not correct the underlying situation previously registered".

UGT also maintains the complaint regarding legionella in the water network. According to the union, "the presence of legionella in the water network has persisted throughout the summer" and this supply "has been used for the consumption of the animals".

Demolition campaign

Furthermore, the union organization asserts that its delegate is the "victim of a harassment and demolition campaign" following the opening of disciplinary proceedings. According to UGT, these proceedings were initiated after a formal request from the City Council to the company Athisa in which it was accused of leaking photographic material.

For the union, this action, together with the "external strikebreaking" which, it claims, occurred during the strike, demonstrates a "zero respect" from the Palma City Council for labor rights and union representatives.
