137 health professionals, enrolled in the first edition of the IB Salut Catalan course
The first edition finishes this month of June and a second one is already planned for October
PalmaA total of 137 professionals have registered for the first edition of the B2 level Catalan course, taught by the Health Service in collaboration with the Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics. The course, which began 15 days ago, initially had sixty places. As a result of the high number of registrations, it was decided to expand to 137. The Health Service plans to launch a second edition in October.
In the last two years, a total of 652 healthcare professionals from the Health Service have taken Catalan courses. Specifically, 503 have trained in A2 healthcare Catalan and 149 in B1 level. Since they were launched, five editions of the A2 level (between 2024-2026) and two of the B1 level (2025-2026) have been held.
Since 2024, the Health Service, in collaboration with the Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics, has organized Catalan conversation courses and workshops for healthcare personnel, healthcare transport technicians, and orderlies. The training activities, which are free and voluntary, have been taught in all health areas.
The objective of these courses is to promote and guarantee the use of Catalan as the official and native language of the Balearic Islands, to make access to Catalan knowledge more accessible to the Health Service staff, and to achieve its progressive use as a vehicular language, in order to improve communication with patients.
