A fire that broke out Saturday morning in an underground parking garage forced the precautionary evacuation of approximately sixty residents from a six-story apartment building in Sa Coma, in the municipality of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar. According to the Mallorca Fire Department, the fire started shortly before 9:00 a.m. in a vehicle parked in the building's garage, located on Ficus Street. Firefighters from Manacor, Artà, and Alcúdia, as well as local police officers, were dispatched to the scene. Emergency services treated a total of 22 people for smoke inhalation, five of whom were local police officers involved in the security and evacuation efforts. No serious injuries were reported. As a precaution, approximately sixty residents were evacuated, while other neighbors remained confined to their homes while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. At around 9:45 a.m., the fire was declared under control, although crews continued ventilation and smoke control efforts to ensure the building's safety before residents returned. Nearly half of the residents will be temporarily housed in the sports center.

Twenty-five residents of the burned building will be temporarily housed in the Sa Coma municipal sports center, as the Mallorca Fire Department says they will not be able to return to their homes for another four or five days. Of the other half of the residents evacuated as a precaution this morning, some have already been able to return home, while others are staying temporarily with friends and family.
