About 200 people protest at Cort for the suspension of the Sopar a la Llesca and denounce "arbitrariness" by the City Council

PalmaAbout 200 people gathered this Wednesday evening in Plaça de Cort to denounce what they consider an "arbitrary" action by the Palma City Council after the Consistory did not authorize the Sopar a la Llesca planned within the program of the Festes de Canamunt 2026.

In statements to the media, a representative of the Brunzit collective has criticized that the denial was communicated to them by phone only two days before the event, despite the fact that the request had been registered in May. According to her allegations, they have not yet received any official resolution that legally justifies the municipal decision.

The organizers maintain that the request met the same characteristics as other previously authorized activities and emphasize that the event did not affect vehicle circulation. They also point out that, before knowing the refusal, the tables and chairs intended for the activity had already been placed in the square.

During the demonstration, the organizers have framed this case within the difficulties that, as they assure, different entities face in organizing activities in public spaces. In this regard, they recalled the controversy over the Pride Day celebration promoted by Ben Amics and the suspension of several events during the Canamunt and Canavall festivals.

The protest ended with attendees having dinner in the same Plaça de Cort and with a call to participate in the mobilization called for Sunday against mass tourism.
