PalmThe Civil Guard has identified the driver who on April 25th drove the wrong way on the Ma-19 highway towards Palma, in a busy stretch between the airport and Coll d'en Rabassa. The events, recorded by several cameras, generated a situation of extreme danger and alarm among drivers.

The incident occurred around 2:10 PM, when a Renault Scenic vehicle negligently accessed the lanes going the wrong way and drove for several kilometers in the opposite direction of usual traffic. The Traffic Central received multiple warnings from drivers alerting to the seriousness of the situation, which allowed for the rapid activation of the police operation.

The analyzed images show how the driver endangered the lives of other road users, forcing other vehicles to take evasive maneuvers to avoid a potential head-on collision. The danger of the situation was aggravated by the high intensity of usual traffic on this highway during that time slot.

The Traffic Sector's Accident Investigation Unit carried out a detailed study of the video and its frames. By cross-referencing this data with the General Directorate of Traffic's surveillance cameras and other devices in the area, the agents managed to identify the license plate and locate the driver.

The Civil Guard reminds that the offense of reckless driving, with manifest disregard for the lives of others, can result in prison sentences of between six months and two years, as well as the suspension of the driving license for a period of between one and six years. The proceedings have already been forwarded to the judicial authority.
