PalmaProjecte Home Balears attended nearly 3,200 people in 2025, the highest figure in its history. According to the annual report presented this Thursday by the organization, the number of users increased by 4.8% compared to the previous year, with alcohol and cocaine as the main reasons for starting treatment.

The president of Projecte Home Balears, Jesús Mullor, and the therapeutic director of the organization, Sergi Canals, have highlighted that these two substances account for 72.6% of interventions. Cocaine is the main addiction treated, with 27.7% of cases, followed by alcohol (24.1%) and the combination of both substances (20.8%).

The organization also notes a progressive aging of the profile of people attended. The average age of users is now 39.4 years, almost two years more than five years ago. This change confirms the transformation of addiction patterns compared to previous eras, when younger people primarily linked to heroin use predominated.

Regarding gender differences, alcohol is the main substance associated with treatments among women, while among men, cocaine continues to lead the reasons for intervention.

During the presentation, Canals also warned of the increase in behavioral addictions after the pandemic. Dependencies related to social networks, mobile devices, gambling, sex, online shopping, and financial investments now represent 10.9% of people attended by Projecte Home.

The organization has several residential resources for the most complex cases, although it maintains waiting lists. Currently, access to medium-demand residential programs can take up to 47 days, while for those with higher therapeutic intensity, the wait extends to 66 days.

Mullor has called for more institutional support to expand these resources and reduce access times. "When a person decides to ask for help, it's because they are in an emergency situation," he emphasized.

The president of Projecte Home has also pointed out the existing relationship between the nightlife and drug consumption model in the Balearic Islands and addictions. In this regard, he defended the need to combat and denounce this reality, while advocating for healthy leisure alternatives.

The organization wanted to send a message of hope and insisted that anyone with an addiction "is recoverable" and that it is always possible to overcome it with the right support.
