Mother and father arrested accused of mistreating their minor children in Palma

PalmThe National Police have arrested a man and a woman in Palma, allegedly accused of assaulting and mistreating their two minor children. The arrests took place last Thursday following an investigation opened after a report made by the couple's eldest daughter while she was being treated at a hospital.

According to the Superior Police Headquarters, the facts came to light at the end of April, when the minor explained to the medical staff various episodes of physical and verbal violence against both herself and her younger brother. The young woman also stated that the minor had been assaulted inside the family home.

The medical staff detected injuries on the minor consistent with blows inflicted with belts. In addition, the victim reported that the mother also used physical violence against her partner in front of the two children.

After receiving the notification from the hospital, agents from the Unit for Attention to Family and Women (UFAM) launched an investigation that culminated in the arrest of the two parents as alleged perpetrators of a crime of mistreatment in the family environment. According to the National Police, the two minors have been separated from their parents and are currently under the guardianship of the child protection service.
