They postpone Balti Picornell's statement because the defense had not received Jorge Campos's lawsuit
The hearing has been postponed by mutual agreement after the defense argued that it had not received the complaint, which was served on it this very Thursday
PalmaThe statement of the former president of the Parliament Balti Picornell, who had been summoned as an investigated party in the case initiated by Vox leader Jorge Campos, was suspended this Thursday at the Palma courts after his defense alleged defects in the notification of the procedure.
According to Picornell, neither he nor his lawyer had had access to the content of the complaint before the judicial appearance, which prevented them from adequately preparing the defense, a fundamental right recognized constitutionally. During the hearing, the defense raised this issue and the court agreed to postpone the statement. The plaintiff also agreed with the suspension.
After the session, Picornell's defense finally received the text of the complaint, which they will now be able to analyze and prepare before the new judicial summons. The new hearing has been set for June 16 at 1 p.m. Until then, the defense of the former president of the Parliament will study the documentation and prepare the corresponding allegations.
Picornell pointed out before entering the court that it had been done in a "humorous tone"
Before entering the court, Picornell pointed out that the photograph in which he appears next to a mural against Vox congressman Jorge Campos was taken in a "humorous tone" and without any other intention. He also recalled that the mural had been visible since 2023 and that he photographed himself in front of the graffiti, whose author he does not know, during 2024. He also admitted that he later used the image on several occasions to respond to Campos on social media.
Picornell appeared at the courts on Via d'Alemanya as an investigated person following the lawsuit filed by Campos, who considers that the repeated dissemination of the image on social media could constitute a crime. Last week, the Vox leader personally ratified the complaint before the investigating court.
The lawyer for Acció Cassandra, Josep Rossell, who is defending Picornell, assured that they have not yet formally received notification of the lawsuit. As he explained, the judicial summons was communicated by telephone to his client. Rossell described it as an "honor" to assume his defense.
About a dozen people gathered at the gates of the courts to support the former president of Parliament before the appearance. For his part, Campos, assisted by lawyer Eduardo Luna, warned last week that he does not rule out extending his accusation to other people who have also disseminated the same photograph on social media.
