PalmaBen Amics accuses a psychologist at the Gender Identity Clinic (CDIG) of Son Espases of transphobia after collecting testimonies from 30 people who claim to have received discriminatory treatment between 2020 and 2026. According to the association, the professional questioned their gender identity, hindered access to hormonal treatments, and withheld information about the procedures to begin the transition.
Among the testimonies collected are people who claim that the psychologist accused them of "wanting to seek attention and not being trans" when they went to the clinic to start the transition. Others claim that she told them that only she could grant them the "permission" to access hormones and that she would do so when she deemed it appropriate.
The organization also reports that the professional subjected people requesting hormone therapy to "exams" to determine if they were prepared to begin the treatment. According to the collected accounts, she specifically questioned the identity of neurodivergent people, because she considered that conditions like autism could cause them confusion regarding their gender identity.
Ben Amics demands a meeting with the Health Department
The president of the association, Tatiana Casado, criticized this Monday the response from the Ministry of Health and the IB-Salut. She accuses them of answering the complaints through the media instead of meeting with the organization to address the facts.
“Health treats it as if it were a thing of the past, but it remains the daily reality for many people who are denied dignified healthcare without discrimination and from whom information about access to hormones is deliberately hidden,” stated Casado.
The president of Ben Amics maintains that these practices violate the healthcare protocols for trans people and both regional and national legislation. In this sense, she recalls that these regulations recognize the principle of gender self-determination and the depathologization of trans identities.
Request to eliminate the consultation
Following the testimonies, Ben Amics has reiterated the request for Health to eliminate the Gender Identity Consultation at Son Espases. The association considers that the service maintains a pathologizing model of care, which treats trans identities as an illness and conditions access to treatments on the approval of a professional.
The entity demands that trans people be able to receive dignified healthcare, without discrimination and with information about treatment options.
