Bicipalma closes 2025 with a record of users and rentals and expects to exceed all figures in 2026

The municipal service added 11,000 new users and almost 300,000 more rentals last year, while Cort foresees that in 2026 it will again exceed the record

PalmaBicipalma closed 2025 with the best figures in its history. The municipal public bicycle service reached 42,500 users, more than 11,000 above the previous year, and registered 1.4 million rentals, almost 300,000 more than in 2024. This represents an average of about 4,000 daily uses.

The Councilor for Mobility of the Palma City Council, Toni Deudero, has attributed this growth, among other factors, to the opening of the service to people who do not reside in Palma. However, he has defended that it is not a measure intended for tourists, in the face of criticism from some political groups. In fact, 80.8% of users are residents of Mallorca. Foreigners represent 1.6% with 821 users, while the rest are citizens from other autonomous communities, with 5,072 users.

More bicycles available from the start

Another of the elements that Cort points out as key to explaining the increase in uses is the bicycle redistribution. Until last year, two daily operations were carried out, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Since January 1, 2026, there has also been a night operation, with the aim of having more bicycles available first thing in the morning.

The service has also strengthened its staff and currently has seven mechanics, four citizen service operators, and 12 bicycle redistribution drivers.

The incorporation of the University of the Balearic Islands into the system, in May 2025, has also contributed to the growth. Between October and May, more than 1,200 daily uses have been registered. The UIB has six stations and 54% of rentals correspond to journeys within the same campus.

Bicipalma has also increased its uses thanks to the possibility of reserving bicycles through the application, without having to go to a station beforehand. 18.2% of rentals are already made through this system. Another resource is the so-called overflow, which allows a bicycle to be left locked with the same padlock when there are no free anchoring points. The station recognizes the lock and ends the rental.

Cort forecasts a new record in 2026

Although the 2026 data is not yet complete, Cort anticipates that Bicipalma will break its record again this year. By May, 10,800 new users had already joined, bringing the service to 53,300 users, 59.3% of whom maintained an active subscription. The average number of uses during the first five months of the year stood at 2,387 daily rentals.

In addition, Palma is executing the third phase of service expansion, with an investment of 800,000 euros. This action will incorporate 16 new stations, 310 docking points, and 150 fully electric bicycles. Upon completion, Bicipalma will have 102 stations, 1,808 docking points, and 1,080 bicycles. The fourth phase has already been awarded and plans to install 13 new stations on Palma Beach and five on the Maritime Promenade.
