PalmA 49-year-old man is admitted to the Policlinic Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Ibiza after suffering a brutal homophobic beating in the early hours of Friday to Saturday in Formentera, as reported by the entity La Clau de s’Armari and condemned by the island council and the government.

The events took place on a pedestrian-priority street, when the man was trying to take a photograph in front of the poster for the play Entrepares, with LGTBI themes. According to the reporting entity, a vehicle with two occupants made an attempt to run him over and, after a verbal confrontation, the two men got out of the car.

At that moment, upon noticing the poster and shouting "and furthermore, faggots", the aggressors allegedly beat the victim until he was badly injured. The first medical report from Formentera's Emergency Services describes serious injuries, with bruises, contusions, and head wounds, requiring pharmacological treatment and care. La Clau de s’Armari has demanded the "direct and immediate" involvement of all institutions to prevent the case from going unpunished and has called for an "exhaustive and diligent" investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

The Formentera Council has expressed a "forceful condemnation" of the events and stated that they are "absolutely incompatible" with the island's values of coexistence, respect, and freedom. It has also conveyed its support to the victim and committed to collaborating with the authorities to clarify the facts as quickly as possible. For her part, the Minister of Families, Social Welfare and Dependency Care, Sandra Fernández, has "resoundingly" condemned the assault and stressed that "there is no room for hatred in the Balearic Islands", especially in the face of attacks motivated by sexual orientation.
