Convene a large demonstration against the expansion of Ibiza airport
The protest, called by the Association of Youth of Ibiza, will begin at 6 p.m. in Vara de Rey and will end in front of the island council
PalmaThe Association of Youth of Ibiza (AJE) has called a demonstration for next Sunday, September 20, to protest against the expansion of Ibiza airport. The mobilization will begin at 6 p.m. in Vara de Rey and will go through the main streets of the city until reaching the island council, where a manifesto will be read.
The entity rejects the increase in the number of boarding gates planned in the reform project promoted by Aena. It also opposes the expansion of the VIP lounge and the creation of an exclusive zone for non-Schengen flights.
According to AJE, these actions will increase pressure on the territory and on essential public services such as healthcare, mobility, and water resources. The association also considers that the expansion of airport facilities will ultimately negatively affect the well-being of the island's residents and workers.
Criticisms of Aena's management
During the press conference where the demonstration was announced, the Association of Young People of Ibiza also denounced an alleged illegal dumping of fecal matter attributed to Aena in the Ses Salines Natural Park.
The entity calls for a more balanced and consensual tourism management model that allows addressing mass tourism and the problems that, it argues, derive from it.
Therefore, the AJE has called on citizens to participate in the mobilization on the 20th. "Now more than ever Ibiza needs us," have claimed sources from the association.
