The former head of Radiology at Son Espases denounces contempt from management: "Let them not look the other way"

PalmaThe former head of Radiology at Son Espases University Hospital, Joan Palmer, has stated that he felt "disregarded" during his last year as head of the department at Son Espases University Hospital. In a message posted on social media, the specialist, now retired, has demanded that the Balearic Health Service (IB Salut) does not "look the other way" in the face of situations that affect the health of professionals.

Palmer has spoken out in a post in which he showed his support for journalist Sabrina Vidal, who this Tuesday publicly denounced the episodes of humiliation and workplace harassment that she suffered at the hands of the management as the hospital's Communications manager.

"May the shame change sides! I subscribe to Sabrina Vidal's words. I also felt belittled during my last year as head of Service at Son Espases," stated the retired radiologist. In his text supporting the journalist, Palmer also mentioned the island's Minister of Health, Manuela García.

In reaction to Vidal's public denunciation, the nursing union SATSE has demanded the opening of an extraordinary Health and Safety Committee and Staff Board so that the management of Son Espases can provide explanations regarding the reported situation and, if applicable, initiate proceedings for alleged workplace harassment. The union has also requested the presence of the center's manager, Cristina Granados, at these meetings. The Staff Board is scheduled for Monday, September 7, while the date for the Health and Safety Committee is still pending. SATSE considers the facts described by the former communications manager to be "very serious" and demands "zero tolerance" for any situation involving mobbing.

This Wednesday, the Journalists' Union of the Balearic Islands (SPIB) also condemned the situations of “humiliation, pressure, and disauthorization” reported by the former head of Communications. The union has demanded that any possible situation of workplace harassment be investigated "with all guarantees" and that, if applicable, responsibilities be clarified.
