PalmaThe Palma City Council assures that it has "at no time disavowed" the Sopar a la Llesca, included in the Canamunt Festivals 2026 program because, two days before the event, it had not yet been decreed, and justifies the decision not to authorize the occupation of Plaça de Cort due to the high number of activities that this space has hosted this year.

The municipal spokesperson, Mercedes Celeste, explained this Tuesday, after the Governing Board, that during 2026, 89 events have already taken place in Plaça de Cort, one more than in all of 2025. For this reason, she said, the City Council considered that the activity could be moved to another location.

According to Celeste, the City Council offered the organizing entities different alternative locations: Plaça de Llorenç Villalonga, Plaça de Llorenç Bisbal, and Plaça d'en Coll. However, the entities would have discarded them for various reasons. Currently, the City Council maintains authorization for the Sopar a la Llesca in Plaça del Quadrado and, according to the spokesperson, the organizers are studying whether to finally accept this location.

The municipal spokesperson also assured that the City Council keeps reserved the 60 tables and 400 chairs planned for the realization of the activity. Asked about the communication of the decision only two days before the event, Celeste did not refer to the processing deadlines, in the same way that sources from the City Council also did not wish to give further explanations.

The municipal version comes after the Brunzit Neighbors Association, the Canamunt Neighbors Association, and the popular athenaeums La Fonera and l'Elèctrica reported that, with only two days left until the Sopar a la Llesca celebration, they had been informed by telephone that their request to occupy Plaça de Cort would not be authorized.

Faced with this situation, the entities have registered an instance to request explanations and are awaiting a municipal response. Furthermore, they have called a press conference this Wednesday, at 8 p.m., in Plaça de Cort to denounce the last-minute denial of the Sopar a la Llesca, planned as part of the Canamunt 2026 Festivals, as well as the administrative difficulties that, they claim, affect the organization of community activities in Palma's public spaces.

The press conference comes after, according to the entities, the municipal refusal to authorize the activity was verbally communicated to them by telephone only two days before the scheduled date for the celebration, without any formal motivated resolution being notified to justify this decision. For the moment, the organizers assure that they cannot guarantee that the Sopar a la Llesca can be held at the planned location, although they maintain the call for neighbors to meet on Wednesday. "We will find a way to see each other," they state in the press release.
