Cort will build two new buildings in Son Reus: "We want to improve care for animals and staff conditions"
The project will have a budget of 1.9 million euros and it is foreseen that, once tendered and awarded, the works will last 12 months
PalmaThe Palma City Council will demolish the building of the Son Reus municipal animal protection health center to build two new ones. The Governing Board approved this Wednesday the contracting file to tender the works and services necessary to erect a new administrative building and another auxiliary one. The project has a base tender budget of 1,986,409.23 euros (VAT included) and, according to the spokesperson for the municipal government team, Mercedes Celeste, it is "a decisive step in the modernization of municipal facilities that had not experienced any action of this magnitude for years".
During the execution of the works, the continuity of the service will be guaranteed at all times. For this reason, it is planned that the changing rooms for cleaning and maintenance staff will be temporarily moved to the upper floor of the veterinary clinic, while public attention and administrative services will be temporarily relocated to the training room. Celeste highlighted that this investment will allow "the modernization of facilities that needed a significant renovation to adapt to the current needs of the service and continue improving both animal care and staff working conditions".
Once the project is tendered and awarded, the planned execution periods are 10 months for the construction of the administrative building and technical assistance services, and 12 months for the construction of the auxiliary building. The project foresees the demolition of the current administrative building, approximately 200 square meters, located on the same plot, to erect new, more modern, accessible and functional facilities.
The new building will improve the organization of access and workspaces. It will also maintain current administrative uses and incorporate new facilities, including offices, meeting rooms, a training room, storage rooms, and changing rooms for staff.
Likewise, a separate auxiliary building, of approximately 100 square meters on the ground floor, will be constructed to cover new needs of the center. Among other spaces, there will be a specific area for the storage of food and feed for animals, as well as separate hygienic services for adults and minors linked to the environmental education classroom. Of the total budget, 1,462,844.65 euros are allocated to the construction of the new administrative building; 441,609.36 euros to the auxiliary building; and 81,955.22 euros, to the services of technical management, execution management of the works, and health and safety coordination.
