Cort will sanction the caravanners of Ciutat Jardí: "In Palma there is no place for caravans"

PalmThe Palma City Council has announced that it will go to the points where caravanners gather, such as Ciudad Jardín, to fine and "restore order" because "in Palma and in the Balearic Islands there is no place for motorhomes to set up, do tourism or camp".

This was the response given by the spokesperson for the local corporation, Mercedes Celeste, to questions from the media about the complaints from residents of this neighborhood of the city and the requests to provide services for people who are in these vehicles.

The representative alleged that in the Archipelago "caravan tourism is not wanted" and for this reason she emphasized that a civic ordinance was drawn up for these actions to be carried out.

In this way, she criticized that there are councilors who have positioned themselves against this regulation, but she asserted that the City Council "must face" this situation.

Celeste has highlighted that if services are provided to these people, it is "assumed" that there is a campsite in Ciudad Jardín and that camping tourism could now arrive.

"The City Council has a very clear line, which is that motorhomes in Palma, for living or for tourism, are not permitted," she stated, and added that its "closure" will be sought.

Therefore, she maintained that the City Council has set out to strengthen the Palma Local Police force and has given as an example the incorporation of more than 50 agents last week or the launch of a new competitive examination.

Expansion of neighborhoods with ORA zone

Another of the issues for which the councilor has been consulted is the expansion of neighborhoods with ORA parking zones in the city, for this reason, the payment machines have begun to be installed and then the adaptation of the streets will follow.

Celeste has indicated that when the definitive implementation calendar is available, which "seems to be following the right pace", it will be exhibited and publicized.

El Tirador Velodrome

On the other hand, the Governing Board this Wednesday has approved the basic project for the future urban park of the old El Tirador Velodrome and the rehabilitation of the architectural complex of the building and the track, a space declared an asset of cultural interest (BIC) and one of the major urban transformation projects in the city of Palma.

According to Celeste, the budget for this action amounts to 3.6 million euros. The total area of action is 22,300 square meters, of which 11,900 will be allocated to green areas, representing 58.5% of the total surface.

Baluard del Príncipe

Furthermore, the Board has approved the commencement of the second phase of the technical assistance contract linked to the restoration and rehabilitation works of the Paseo de Ronda on the walls of Palma, in the sector of the Baluarte del Príncipe. This agreement represents a key step that allows for the activation of the facultative direction and the technical supervision necessary to face the final phase of the project's execution. Furthermore, it sets the maximum date for the restart of the works as next May 27, 2026, with the foreseen start date being the 21st.
