PalmaThe installation of a promotional stand by the airline company Etihad Airways in Palma's Porta Pintada square has forced the Balearic Islands Blood and Tissue Bank this Thursday to move its usual activity to Plaça d'Espanya, a situation that has also altered the institutional event planned for World Blood Donor Day. The company has occupied this space to promote the new direct connection between Abu Dhabi and Mallorca, which will begin operating this Friday, June 12.

The change has also affected the presentation of the Blood Bank's activity report, organized to coincide with World Blood Donor Day and with the participation of the Minister of Health, Manuela García, and other authorities. Although the official government information indicates that the event took place at Porta Pintada, it finally took place at Plaça d'Espanya, as shown in the images of the call.

The Etihad promotion arrives after an intense promotional campaign, visible at various points on the island with the slogan 'Mallorca, luxury arrives on June 12'. This January, the Consell de Mallorca presented this new route at Fitur. During the presentation, the island's president, Llorenç Galmés, argued that "brave, containment and responsible tourism policies" were beginning to yield results, with a redistribution of visitors towards the low season months.

The latest data from the National Institute of Statistics indicate that the Balearic Islands received 1,627,466 travelers between January and April, a 7.1% increase compared to the same period last year. This increase comes in a context of growing debate about tourist overcrowding and when a new major demonstration against mass tourism has already been called for next July 26th, following the massive protests of 2025 and 2024 that filled the streets of the center of Palma against overcrowding.
