PalmaThe Palma City Council has reiterated its commitment to the celebration of the LGTBI+ Pride program in the city and its willingness for the festival to take place in collaboration with the entity Ben Amics, as it considers that "there is sufficient room for its processing". In a statement, the council assured that at no time has the cancellation of the event been considered and that it has worked from the beginning with the aim of developing all the programmed activities.

The City Council has explained that it has already initiated the corresponding administrative proceedings and that it has transferred on several occasions to the entity that there was sufficient margin to complete the processing within the established legal deadlines. In this regard, it has regretted Ben Amics' decision to announce the cancellation of the carnival and to maintain this position despite the contacts and guarantees offered by the Equality area. According to Cort, the contracts linked to educational and training activities are already underway and are following their normal course, while the file for the festive activities is also progressing according to the usual procedures, with Ben Amics as a collaborating entity.

Awaiting the entity's response

The council has pointed out that it is necessary for the entity to expressly confirm its willingness to participate in order to continue with the processing. To this end, the City Council sent a formal request to Ben Amics on Monday to confirm if they want to continue being part of the organization of the festival, after the entity made it known that they were seriously considering the cancellation of the event.

This requirement, which establishes a ten-day deadline to respond, has not yet been answered or opened, as indicated by the council. The City Council warns that the lack of response prevents normal progress and could cause unnecessary delays.

Scheduled meeting and calendar

In parallel, the council has called a meeting this Wednesday with the entity, which will be attended by the Deputy Mayor for Equality, Lourdes Roca, with the aim of reiterating the municipal commitment to the celebration, presenting a work plan with concrete deadlines and reinforcing the need to maintain usual collaboration.

The City Council has pointed out that, if the procedure continues as planned, the contracting linked to the event could be resolved between the end of May and the beginning of June, which would leave sufficient margin to resolve possible incidents before June 28, the date of the LGTBI+ Pride celebration. Finally, the council has stressed that even events of great organizational complexity, such as the Sant Sebastià festival, have been resolved on numerous occasions within tight deadlines. It should be remembered that, given the possible cancellation of the event due to the lack of response denounced by the entity from Cort, the Manacor City Council offered this Tuesday the possibility that the city of Part Forana host the festival.
