A dog in Son Reus attacks three workers
The City Council says it was an "unfortunate" and that outsourcing has increased resources "significantly".
PalmA dog, a mixed breed of Argentine Mastiff, attacked three workers at the Son Reus dog pound. The incident occurred at 6:45 a.m. on Saturday when an employee of the contracted company, Athisa, began distributing the animals' daily food.
As she entered one of the cages, the woman was attacked by the dog, sustaining injuries to her right arm. Two other workers—a security guard and another Athisa employee—who tried to help their colleague, were also attacked by the animal. The guard was injured in the right arm, while the employee suffered minor injuries. Through the combined efforts of various Son Reus staff members on duty, the dog was subdued and sedated, and first aid was administered to the injured. Both individuals with the most serious injuries were transported by ambulance to a hospital and have since been discharged. The Palma City Council stated that the attack was due to an "unfortunate incident" and emphasized that resources have "significantly" increased since the outsourcing of services. In fact, they have argued that since it took effect in June, the Son Reus Municipal Health Center has increased its human and technical resources compared to the previous period, during which the collection of live and dead animals throughout the municipality of Palma, as well as the daily maintenance and cleaning of the premises, were limited. The City Council considers it necessary to "disassociate" the incident that occurred last Saturday at the facilities from the center's staffing and resource situation.
