PalmAround thirty people attended the rally, which was called by Stop Desahucios Mallorca this Saturday in Palma's Plaza de España, to support the people living in the storage rooms on Joan Miró Street and who are facing power cuts and evictions.

In statements, Stop Desahucios Mallorca spokesperson Joan Segura explained that this first "urgent" rally is to denounce, above all, the power cuts, but also to warn that next Thursday there are planned "between one and two judicial evictions" of families living in the substandard housing they rent.

In addition, Segura announced that a complaint will be filed "imminently," "on behalf of a dozen affected people, who have overcome all the fears that affect migrants when it comes to filing complaints," against the local police officer who rents the substandard housing and his company for "harassment."

In this way, he stressed that the power cut on Thursday "was not a cut due to an illegal connection, it was an illegal reduction in power again, as had already been done a year ago." "What we hope is that this time justice will respond," the spokesperson noted, "and if not, we will have to mobilize to ensure that it does."

In any case, he recalled that "the Administration has the obligation to guarantee supplies" because "Royal Decree 8/2021 is in force, which must be complied with by the Administration, and which the courts should be aware of."

For this reason, he considered that "the courts should not authorize, if it is true that they have authorized it, any precautionary measure to cut off supplies, without knowing if people live" in the storage rooms, because "the law, as it stands, only allows supplies to be cut off if there is a water leak, without having one, the electricity supply cannot be cut off," Segura stated.
