Excavations in Son Servera end with the location of two burials of Civil War victims

PalmaThe Government has finished the work of the V Grave Plan carried out this year in Son Servera, an action that has allowed for the location in the municipal cemetery of at least two burials that present signs compatible with people murdered during the Civil War.

The work, promoted by the Ministry of the Presidency, began in the month of April and was carried out in a first phase until the end of May. During this period, several archaeological surveys were carried out in different parts of the cemetery to investigate the possible existence of a grave related to the events of the Civil War.

The interventions allowed for the location of several burials and a deeper study of the identified areas, with the documentation of different spaces within the site and the analysis of the characteristics of the burials. The work continued in the month of July at Comellar Fondo in Son Servera, an area identified as a possible burial site for combatants who died during the Civil War. In this location, new archaeological surveys were conducted, but no mass grave was located.

The intervention resumed on September 1st at the municipal cemetery, following the interruption of work during the summer months. In this new phase, the presence of at least two burials containing elements compatible with victims linked to the Civil War combats has been confirmed.

Among the findings are ammunition and various items related to military clothing. These indications have allowed the burials to be linked to the context of the Battle of Mallorca combats.

With the completion of these actions, the Government considers the work carried out this year in Son Servera within the framework of the 5th Grave Plan to be finished. The program aims to advance in the location, recovery, study, and identification of persons who disappeared during the Civil War.
