A former student breaks into a school in Palma with a knife.
The center's staff activated the security protocol and closed the students in classes to ensure their safety.
PalmPalma Local Police arrested an 18-year-old youth at a school on Thursday after breaking into his former school with a large knife.
According to the police force, the incident occurred around 9 a.m. when the youth, known by the school administration for his "social problems," went to the principal's office seeking help. While school staff tried to talk to him, he began to display erratic behavior and became severely distressed.
The school immediately activated the 061 emergency response service to address a possible medical emergency. Upon arrival, paramedics attempted to assist him when the individual pulled out a large knife and threatened the staff.
Afterward, he locked himself in one of the school's classrooms. The school's security protocol was activated, and teachers locked the students in their classrooms to ensure their safety.
Several units from the Immediate Intervention Unit (UII) were dispatched to the scene and two officers subdued the young man, who was threatening the ambulance staff who came to the center to treat him with the knife.
The student was taken by ambulance to Son Llàtzer Hospital, was formally arrested by the Local Police and the relevant proceedings are being initiated for an alleged crime of serious threats with a knife.
