A fugitive convicted in Palma for abusing his partner's niece has been arrested in Colombia.
The man had been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for abusing his partner's niece at a home in Palma.
PalmA man has been arrested in Colombia after fleeing to avoid serving a sentence for sexually abusing a seven-year-old girl in Palma. The arrest took place in the city of Pereira, in the department of Risaralda, in a joint operation by the Colombian police and the country's prosecutor's office, with the support of international organizations.
According to Colombian authorities, the arrest was carried out in compliance with an Interpol Red Notice, an international request to locate fugitives, issued at the request of the Palma judicial authorities. The man was wanted after leaving Spain without being imprisoned. The events for which he was convicted date back to 2022. According to the judicial investigation, the defendant allegedly sexually abused his partner's niece at the home they shared in Palma. In January 2024, the Palma Provincial Court sentenced him to two and a half years in prison after the defendant admitted to the facts. In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered him to pay €4,000 in compensation to the victim for the emotional distress caused. However, the man failed to appear to serve his sentence and fled to Colombia. Given this situation, the court issued an arrest warrant, which has finally allowed them to locate and arrest him.
