Ibiza overcomes the emergency phase and begins recovery
The Director General of Emergencies has estimated the total number of incidents handled as a result of the downpours at 480.
PalmThe Government has formally declared the end of the emergency phase in Ibiza following the rains and flooding that hit the island last Tuesday, September 30th, and the recovery phase has now begun.
This was announced by the Director General of Emergencies and the Interior, Pablo Gárriz, in statements to the media this Friday, in which he estimated the number of incidents handled at 480. Currently, he indicated, there are ten incidents left to be resolved. These pending incidents, he clarified, are "technical issues" or must be transferred to the city councils or another body due to a matter of jurisdiction, and it is expected that they can be resolved in the next few hours.
"We have managed to restore those situations and services that were essential for the citizens and for the city as a whole," he explained, adding that there is currently no risk situation. He also thanked the citizens for their goodwill and their coordination with other institutions. He explained that in less than 72 hours, they have been able to complete what would have taken between four and six weeks with ordinary means.
Regarding the pending incidents, Gárriz explained that these are assessments that correspond to the local councils, issues of facility identification; in short, "more maintenance and repair activities than anything else." Regarding the teams deployed to Ibiza to address the consequences of the storm, a structured de-escalation is being carried out. The Director General indicated that the first boats from the Military Emergency Unit (UME) departed this Friday morning and that another contingent will depart this Saturday.
The UME personnel who remain in Ibiza are carrying out drone reconnaissance on the EI-20 highway, and specialized teams are performing repair work in different areas along the Platja d'en Bossa road. The Mallorca and Palma firefighters will also be leaving the island this Friday, along with the Balearic Institute of Nature (Ibanat) contingent, Civil Protection volunteers, and members of the state security forces.
