Inspect the building where two people died in a fire in Magaluf

PalmaMunicipal technicians and the Mallorca Fire Brigade are inspecting the Trianon II building in Torrenova, Magaluf, this Friday to assess its structural condition after the fire that caused the death of two people this Thursday.

The Calvià City Council has reported that, for reasons of safety and habitability, the property has been completely sealed off after the incident. The review will determine whether the closure is maintained entirely, if it only affects part of the building, or if it can be lifted.

The fire broke out at 05:23 on the third floor of the building. The first Local Police patrol arrived two minutes later, but could not access it due to the intense accumulation of smoke. The Mallorca Firefighters joined the extinction and rescue efforts at 05:37, after coordinating the operation with 112 and the Local Police.

Emergency services attended to 29 people between the ages of 16 and 78. 25 were discharged at the scene, while 4 had to be transferred to hospital centers.

The fire originated on the 33rd floor, where the two deceased victims resided, and also severely affected the homes located directly above and below, which have been declared uninhabitable. The Civil Guard has sealed off the apartment where the fire started to facilitate the investigation into the causes of the incident.

During the emergency, firefighters evacuated 22 homes with residents inside and inspected the rest of the apartments in the block. In total, 44 people were directly affected by the fire.

On Thursday, residents were able to access their homes in a controlled manner to collect essential belongings, accompanied by a firefighter and a police officer. Subsequently, municipal social services activated the resettlement and assistance plan.

According to the City Council, 36 residents have been temporarily housed in hotels in the area, while this Friday a permanent surveillance operation by the Civil Guard and Local Police remains around the building.
