'In extremis' rescue off Portals Vells: six people saved from a sinking boat
The alert was received around 4:00 PM via the Emergency service
Six people were rescued this Tuesday afternoon by agents of Civil Protection and Emergencies of Calvià after the boat in which they were sailing began to sink off the coast of Portals Vells. The alert was received around 4:00 PM through the Emergency service 112, which reported the presence of a recreational boat with a significant water ingress and six crew members on board.
At that moment, the boat Lima 1 of Civil Protection, responsible for surveillance and lifeguard tasks in the area, was on its usual patrol. Shortly after, the lifeguards located the boat, whose occupants were signaling for help with their arms to request urgent assistance.
The agents immediately approached the boat and verified that it was beginning to sink from the stern due to water ingress. Given the risk that the situation would worsen, the six crew members were evacuated on board the Lima 1. The occupants were transferred safe and sound to the port of Portals, without any injuries.
In parallel, the emergency teams managed to tow the affected boat and prevented it from finally sinking completely. The rapid intervention of the Civil Protection lifeguards was key to ensuring the safety of the occupants and recovering the boat before the incident had more serious consequences.
