PalmaThe former local police officer of Son Servera, convicted in 2024 to seven and a half years in prison for attempting to kill his wife, has surrendered to the authorities after being intercepted at Madrid airport, where he had arrived from Thailand, a country where he had remained hidden since fleeing after the sentence.

As reported by several media outlets and confirmed by Europa Press, agents at the Madrid airport identified the man a few days ago after his return to Spain. Subsequently, he was brought before the court and has now been imprisoned to serve his sentence. The events for which he was convicted date back to March 2018. The Second Section of the Provincial Court considered it proven that the aggressor attempted to kill his partner during an argument that began at their family home after a meal. The conflict erupted when the woman announced her intention to go out with friends, and the man objected.

The sentence states that the ex-policeman adopted an aggressive attitude, grabbed the victim by the shoulders, insulted her, and struck her several times. Immediately after, he dragged her to the bathroom and then to the bedroom, pulling her by a scarf with which he proceeded to squeeze her neck forcefully, attempting to suffocate her with the intent to cause her death. The woman finally managed to free herself thanks to the kicks she delivered to her aggressor. She then fled the home and took refuge first in the bathroom and later at a friend's house.

The court classified the events as a crime of attempted homicide, understanding that if the victim had not managed to escape, the accused could have ended her life. The Civil and Criminal Chamber of the High Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands (TSJIB) later confirmed the sentence. After learning of the sentence, the man removed his electronic monitoring bracelet and fled, remaining at large until his recent return from Thailand. His imprisonment brings an end to a flight that has lasted for months.
