A legal front is formed to support the environmental defense of Menorca
The organization has clarified that these will be contracted professional services, but within the framework of a broader agreement that will allow for the use of both legal teams and volunteer work.
PalmThe Network of Lawyers for Environmental Defense (RADA) and the GOB (Balearic Ornithological Group) have agreed to create the Legal Front for Environmental Defense of Menorca in order to have more tools to confront projects that are harmful to the territory. "This is a stable, strategic, and committed legal alliance," the environmentalists emphasized on Monday, explaining that RADA's lawyers will help the GOB legally strengthen the presentation of allegations, administrative appeals, and, if necessary, legal action. In this context, they indicated that "work will be done to strengthen a culture of environmental legality that combines technical expertise, cooperation, and purpose, in order to build trust and pave the way for fairer and more lasting protection of the territory." The organization clarified that these will be contracted professional services, but within the framework of a broader agreement that will allow for both teams of legal advisors and volunteer work. They also emphasized that the work will cover different areas, such as land-use planning, water, ports, environmental impact, access to environmental information, and others that will be evaluated. The Menorcan environmentalists explained that RADA is a national network of professionals who share resources and information to help each other in their environmental protection efforts. "It is a group of environmental law specialists who want to contribute to the conservation of the island," they stated. "The current scenario of environmental pressure, as well as the environmental and urban planning deregulation that Menorca is experiencing, makes it necessary to strengthen legal counsel to avoid irreversible damage," they concluded.
