Llucmajor unanimously approves the request for the closure of the poultry farm.

The Socialists have been "pessimistic" about the real effects of the measure, arguing that other motions have been approved, but then not implemented.

PalmThe Llucmajor City Council plenary session unanimously approved a motion this Thursday calling for the closure of the Son Perot Poultry Farm. The motions were approved, but subsequently not implemented. "Neither the mayor nor her government team will lift a finger to close the farm," criticized the Socialist spokesperson in the municipality, Jaume Oliver, according to the party in a press release reported by Europa Press.

Oliver considered that the mayor, Xisca Lascolas, was "totally out of place" and the governing team "doesn't know how" to implement the approved motion. "We believe the mayor should resign, as her Environment Councilor did a month ago," he noted.

In this regard, the Socialists have warned of the "total lack of proposals and initiatives" from the municipal government team to resolve the residents' annoyances. According to their criticism, Lascolas reiterated that an agreement has been signed with the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) to study the flies that plague buildings near the mine.

For the spokesperson, the governing team has "absurdly" supported the motion, as "it has become clear once again that in these four years of complaints from residents, the City Council has done nothing." Thus, he argued that closing the farm does not consist of "just putting a padlock on it and that's it," but rather requires a de-escalation process for the operation, as included in the motion. Oliver expressed his "commitment to all the residents" to continue working to eliminate the nuisances and "put an end to the gruesome images inside the mega-farm."

This Thursday's extraordinary plenary session was attended by affected residents and members of animal rights organizations who have led the denunciation of the situation at the farm. Before the session began, a rally was held outside the City Council, demanding the closure of the operation.
