Mallorca will provide technicians to Menorca to draft the Island Territorial Plan

The Consell de Mallorca will provide technical staff remotely to draft PTI reports, while the PSIB criticizes that local resources could be prioritized.

PalmThe Council of Mallorca will provide technical staff to the Council of Menorca to assist in drafting the Island's Territorial Plan (PTI), an agreement that has sparked controversy among the Socialists, who believe Mallorca should have priority on pending local issues. The institutions will sign an agreement after Menorca expressed difficulties in securing the necessary technical personnel, according to sources within the island institution's Territory Department who spoke to ARA Baleares. The Council of Menorca approved a management agreement at its plenary session on December 15th, allowing it to commission Mallorca to draft PTI reports without transferring its Territory Department powers. This agreement is currently under review, and the Council of Mallorca has not yet determined how many technical staff it will dedicate to this work, sources added. The Mallorcan technicians will not travel to Menorca but will assist in drafting the PTI reports remotely. Furthermore, they will continue with their work, but will dedicate part of their workday to preparing "specific reports".

But the PSIB (Socialist Party of the Balearic Islands) in Mallorca questioned the transfer of technical staff to Menorca. Socialist spokesperson Catalina Cladera demanded that the island council's governing team provide details of the project. According to Cladera, the transfer is being proposed "while Mallorca faces equally or even more complex challenges that drag on endlessly and remain unresolved in the Department of Territory." She added that many pending projects in Mallorca—such as park-and-ride facilities and the sustainable mobility bill—remain stalled, and "now we just have to see how the technical staff who should be working on these issues are being reassigned to work in Menorca." In her opinion, the "most logical" option would be "to adequately staff the Menorca Island Council and address the reports from a local perspective."

Furthermore, she criticized the fact that since the Menorca Council approved the management agreement, there have been no public statements from Galmés's governing team on the matter. Therefore, the Socialist spokesperson denounced once again "the opacity that dominates the Mallorca Council."
