PalmThe National Police have arrested a man for allegedly leaving his elderly and vulnerable mother unattended in their Manacor home without food in the refrigerator and surrounded by animal feces. The investigation began after a woman who regularly visited the woman's home to check on her well-being alerted the institution that manages care services about the elderly woman's poor condition.
Officers from the Family and Women's Care Unit (UFAM) of the National Police went to the home to speak with the woman and check on her living conditions. According to the Balearic Islands Police Headquarters, the house was full of garbage, animal feces, and urine. Some rooms had damp and mold stains, and the kitchen was filled with stacks of dirty dishes, and there was nothing in the refrigerator.
The woman's level of starvation was "very severe," and the condition of the dogs she had in the home, which lacked microchips or veterinary records, was "terrible." Officers also discovered that the son had access to the victim's bank account and was keeping her pension money. In light of this, investigators arrested the suspect for alleged domestic abuse. At the request of the Prosecutor's Office, the judicial authority issued a restraining order and prohibited the son from approaching the mother's home. The woman was placed in the care of social services, and the Manacor Local Police arranged for the dogs to be removed from the home.
