PalmMarilena Jover Casasnovas, a doctor in economics and expert in family businesses, has passed away, according to the Balearic Association of Family Businesses (ABEF), an organization of which she was a co-founder and first director, as reported this Monday.
Jover was a key figure in the creation of the association with other entrepreneurs in the late 1990s. She held the presidency of ABEF from then until 2011, although her subsequent career remained linked to family businesses. She also held important management positions at both the public and private levels.
Among other public positions, Jover held the position of general director of Jaume Matas's government and was in charge of the Balearic Islands Health Research Foundation (FISIB) and the Conference Center. She also held senior positions at the Círculo de Economía and Sa Nostra. In 2020, she began her career at Grupo Piñero.
In a statement, the ABEF described her as a "tireless worker" and an "expert in the business community" of the Balearic Islands.
The current president of the ABEF, Inés Rotger, recalled "her tireless energy, motivation, and involvement with the family business community, which has allowed us to be where we are today."
The first president of the association, José Luis Roses, highlighted "the vitality and enthusiasm" she brought to the project from the beginning. "She was the driving force that got the association going; it's a great loss for all of us," he said.
For her part, Prime Minister Marga Prohens said in a post on social media that Marilena was "a tireless worker, a magnificent manager, a woman committed to all the initiatives she took part in, as she demonstrated in recent years at the helm of ABEF." "She leaves a great void among those who worked with her. May she rest in peace," she wrote.
