Matilde Muñoz's killers sentenced to 18 years in prison

The prosecution had accused them of homicide, premeditated murder, and robbery with violence, crimes that can carry sentences of between 15 years in prison and the death penalty.

PalmAn Indonesian court sentenced a man to 18 years in prison on Wednesday. the two men accused of killing Matilde Muñoz from Mallorca in his hotel room on the tourist island of Lombok (Indonesia) last July.

The session took place this Wednesday in the Mataram court (Lombok), where the trial began on December 17, and the sentence corresponds to the penalty requested by prosecutor Made Saptini at the beginning of the month.

The accused are an employee and an Indonesian national from the hotel where Muñoz was staying. The defendants in Lombok admitted during the trial to having broken into the Spanish woman's room at the hotel in the early hours of July 2nd and killing her after the 72-year-old woman went into shock. The prosecution had charged them with homicide, premeditated murder, and robbery with violence, crimes that can carry sentences of up to 15 years in prison and the death penalty, although Indonesia does not usually apply the latter.
