MÉS for Campos and Forward Campos accuse the mayor of deteriorating the democratic quality of the City Council

PalmaMÉS per Campos and Endavant Campos have attacked the institutional management of the mayor of Campos, Francisca Porquer, after the municipal plenary session in which a joint motion was debated in defense of the Trenc Natural Park and the rest of the protected natural spaces of the Balearic Islands. The two formations assure that the City Council is experiencing a "deterioration of democratic quality" and denounce a growing lack of institutional respect.

The motion presented called for maintaining the protection of natural spaces, reversing legislative modifications that, according to the proponents, weaken their guarantees, and reprimanding the mayor's actions during the recent human chain in defense of Trenc.

According to MÉS per Campos and Endavant Campos, the most significant event of the plenary was that Francisca Porquer left the room before the debate and vote on the initiative began. The formations consider that the highest institutional representative of the municipality "cannot turn her back on democratic debate nor avoid giving explanations when political responsibilities are requested of her".

During the session, the Popular Party defended that the controversy surrounding Trenc responds to a "commotion" driven by the left and insisted that "Trenc is not to be touched". MÉS per Campos rejects this statement and maintains that the modifications introduced through the Omnibus Law and other recent government decisions justify the concern expressed by thousands of citizens. According to the formation, the best guarantee for preserving the natural space is to keep the legal protection mechanisms intact.

The two formations also recall that Francisca Porquer had stated years ago that, if it depended on her, Trenc would not be a natural park, a precedent that, in their opinion, detracts from the credibility of the message of tranquility that the Popular Party is now conveying.

Regarding the reprimand of the mayor, MÉS per Campos and Endavant Campos lament that the Popular Party did not respond to the arguments presented by the opposition regarding the alleged lack of institutional respect. They also point out that, with the exception of Vox, the rest of the opposition groups share these criticisms.

Among the reported situations, the formations assure that the four opposition councilors are often excluded from institutional events and state that, despite having repeatedly requested that municipal information be distributed through the councilors' corporate emails, the governing team habitually refers them to consult the City Council's social networks.

During the debate, the spokesperson for Endavant Campos, Paco Blasco, stated that this situation contrasts with previous terms, in which, despite political disagreements, there was a relationship based on institutional respect between the government and the opposition. According to Blasco, this deterioration coincides with Francisca Porquer's arrival at the mayor's office.

The motion was finally rejected with votes against from the Popular Party and Vox and favorable votes from MÉS per Campos and Endavant Campos. For both formations, this result shows that the municipal majority not only rejects strengthening the protection of El Trenc, but also does not assume any self-criticism about its way of governing.

MÉS per Campos and Endavant Campos conclude that both the mayoress's actions during the human chain in defense of El Trenc and the fact of leaving the plenary session and the lack of response to the opposition's criticism reflect, according to them, a way of understanding politics far removed from institutional respect. In this regard, they maintain that "the mayoress represents the entire town of Campos, not just her voters", and they demand "an open, respectful, and democratic institution, worthy of the citizenry it represents".
