Migrant entities attack Prohens' appeal to regularization: "They want us to work, but not to have rights"
The groups accuse the PP of adopting far-right discourse on immigration. They are considering going to the Constitutional Court
PalmaMigrant organizations from the Balearic Islands have expressed this Saturday their "deep indignation" at the decision of the Government of Marga Prohens to appeal to the Supreme Court against the extraordinary regularization process approved by the Spanish government and to request its provisional suspension. Among the signing organizations are the Platform for Immigration in the Balearic Islands, the Federation of Immigrant Associations (FADI), the Association of Ecuadorians of Ibiza and Formentera, and the Association of Senegalese of the Balearic Islands.
The entities consider that this decision constitutes "a direct attack" against thousands of people who have been living and working in the Islands for years in essential sectors such as hospitality, construction, socio-sanitary care and domestic work. As they denounce, the lack of regularization favors situations of labor exploitation, precariousness and the underground economy, and prevents many families from accessing basic rights such as housing and vocational training.
Migrant collectives also accuse the Balearic PP of adopting "the discourse of the extreme right" and of using migrants as "scapegoats" to fuel narratives based on fear and stigmatization. "They want us to work, but not to have rights," says Farouk Pino Nalla, spokesperson for the entities. The associations defend that regularization "does not generate crime or break coexistence", but rather contributes to protecting human rights and combating labor exploitation.
Finally, the collective of migrant entities from the Balearic Islands has demanded the immediate withdrawal of the appeal filed by the Government and has warned that, if this position is maintained, the associations will study filing an appeal for protection before the Constitutional Court so that public administrations guarantee the necessary documentation for the regularization process.
