More than 100 people will be evicted this Tuesday from the Joveria settlement in Ibiza
A Palma court approved the eviction, considering that the establishment poses a health and environmental danger
PalmAbout 130 people will be evicted this Tuesday starting at 10:00 AM from the illegal settlement of La Joveria after the city council received permission from the competent court to enter, dismantle, and clean the plot.
The City Council had requested the owners, through an enforcement order procedure, to comply with the duty to conserve the property by thoroughly removing waste and carrying out other actions. Given the impossibility of the property owner being able to do so, a judicial procedure was initiated that authorizes the eviction and cleaning of the plot, which will subsequently be fenced off to prevent recurrence.
More than 100 people live on this plot in shanties, sheds, and tents. An issue that the City Council lamented due to the minimal hygiene and safety conditions, as they lack septic tanks, water, or waste treatment. In this regard, they pointed out that this poses a risk to their health and safety, as there is a risk of pests and a high risk of fire due to the quantity of stoves, heaters, gas cylinders, and other items intended for cooking and making fires.
Among the documentation submitted by the City Council, which forms part of the file and the judicial procedure, there are several reports from various bodies and entities that indicate the environmental and sanitary risk associated with possible soil contamination through groundwater, as well as an increased risk of infectious episodes linked to insufficient hygiene conditions.
