Orange alert in Mallorca and Menorca: 10-meter waves and strong wind
Furthermore, the yellow alert remains in the Tramuntana mountain range
PalmThe State Meteorological Agency has activated a orange alert in Menorca and in the northeast of Mallorca due to strong gusts of wind and waves that could reach ten meters in height. The most affected area will be the coast of Menorca with force seven gusts of wind that could exceed 70 km per hour. In the case of Mallorca, wind gusts of 60 km/h and waves of up to eight meters are expected on the north and northeast coast of the island.
Furthermore, the Aemet maintains the yellow alert active in the Sierra de Tramuntana, also for strong wind gusts, and some precipitation is not ruled out during the next few hours.
The port of Ciutadella, closed
The port of Ciutadella is closed and will remain so until the orange alert for strong winds is deactivated. Thus, all maritime traffic has been cancelled for, at a minimum, the next few hours. Some of the planned routes have been definitively suspended, while others are maintained, but the port of Maó will substitute for that of Ciutadella.
On the other hand, at first light this morning a nine-meter wave was registered, and it is not ruled out that it may also have to be closed in the coming hours.
