Platform for the Language will appeal IB3 News Deputy Directorate's call for not requiring Catalan

The entity claims that the procedure be nullified and revert to the moment of the approval of the bases

PalmaPlataforma per la Llengua will file a lawsuit against the call to cover the position of Deputy Director of Information at IB3 because it considers that it violates current linguistic regulations by not setting any Catalan language knowledge requirement. The entity demands that the procedure be annulled and revert to the moment of the approval of the bases, with the objective that a new call be published that expressly incorporates the level of Catalan required to hold the position.

The call for applications, recently published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB), regulates the free designation procedure to assume the Deputy Directorate of News of the Public Entity of Radio and Television of the Balearic Islands (EPRTVIB). According to Plataforma per la Llengua, the bases are “contrary to regulations” because they do not establish any minimum level of Catalan, despite being a management position within a public autonomous radio and television station where Catalan is the native and vehicular language. The entity recalls that the Law on Public Function of the Balearic Islands establishes that jobs must determine the required level of Catalan knowledge, while Decree 11/2017 specifies that this requirement must be accredited with the corresponding certificate.

For this reason, Plataforma per la Llengua considers it insufficient that Catalan is only valued as a merit and argues that the bases should specify what level is required, how it must be accredited, and what the consequences of not accrediting it would be. The association warns that, if the process continues in its current terms, a person could be appointed without having demonstrated the level of Catalan that legally corresponds to the position, which, it argues, would violate the principles of merit, capacity, equality, and suitability that must govern access to public employment.
