Politics is like karaoke: everyone has their minutes of glory there

PalmaOne of the main talents that serve to succeed in politics is the gift of timing. One can study, have a broad knowledge of society, be loaded with good intentions, want to change the world... Nothing like being in the right place at the right moment. And the Popular Party knows that at the current moment, the place is Ceuta. Some go there, like a good part of the Spanish government, the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and the leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal. Others have received the president of the autonomous city, like Marga Prohens and Felipe VI. But the majority settles for a kind of spiritual presence and manifests their solidarity with the citizens of Ceuta, as if that served to fix a deep conflict, with multiple edges and complicated, which the Spanish political class has dedicated itself to simplifying and reducing to the absurd.
As the headline of this counter-chronicle says, politics has a common element with karaoke: everyone can enjoy their minutes of glory, whether they sing well, average, or poorly. This is what happened to the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, who took a mass bath, precisely in solidarity with Ceuta. A support that was expressed to the cry of “Pedro Sánchez, son of a bitch”. A proclamation that makes one think that it was not precisely the intellectual class of Palma that gathered at Cort.
Martínez enjoyed it immensely. They gave him an ovation during the reading of the manifesto, he placed the municipal band in a corner of Cort so that it would play the anthem of Spain twice (the group also played that of Ceuta, but the people paid it no mind) and he had by his side Prohens and a good part of the Government (the mayor of Campos, Francisca Porquer, was not missing, who this time did not try to hinder the mobilization as she did at Es Trenc). A rounded day. Pity that the next day the problems of Ceuta continued just as they were before the concentration in dozens of Spanish municipalities.
While the president of the Government highlighted that the protest had no political color, Martínez criticized the absence of the left, some Francoist flags could be seen (some spontaneous person remembered Francisco Franco with affection) and a group of young people from Identitas proclaimed that “Spain is one and not 51”. From the most exquisite political neutrality, of course.
It was a celebration for the City Council, which even illuminated the facade and played a pop soundtrack at the end of the event. A joy that some protesters did not quite understand, shouting "it is not a party, it is a protest!". But, must it be incompatible to have a dance, insult the President of the Spanish Government, and call for the territorial integrity of Spain?
The invasion of the Balearic Islands
Pedro Sánchez did a fine thing when he said in Congress that the reports warning of a flood of migrants referred to the Balearic Islands. First of all, it must be said that this is a very important humanitarian problem. Precisely for this reason, we can reproach politicians for trivializing it. To begin with, is it appropriate to drop this information as if it were nothing, in a plenary session of the Lower House, without having informed the affected territories and only to get past the criticisms (many with good reason) of the terrible management of the crisis in Ceuta?
On the other hand, did anyone think that the Balearic PP would not take the opportunity to extract the maximum political profit? “Citizens of the Balearic Islands,” began Marga Prohens at the press conference that the Government convened urgently on Friday, with a tone of feigned solemnity. From there, nothing new, beyond reiterating once again that the president of the Spanish government is the reincarnation of evil on the Iberian Peninsula. It is curious the role of the president of the Council of Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, who has requested the resignation of the Spanish government delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez, for this issue (not for the baton blows that some Majorcan citizens received who had the audacity to complain about tourist overcrowding on July 26).
The PSOE and quantum politics
On the other side of the ideological spectrum, the PSOE continues to play at being pro-tourism and anti-tourism at the same time (reminder: the candidate for the presidency of the Balearic Islands, Rosario Sánchez, continues to be the Secretary of State for Tourism). While the island socialists claim that the Balearic Islands can no longer handle more visitors and that limits must be set, the Spanish (socialist) government says that we can continue dreaming about the co-management of the island airports, because the issue here is that Aena must continue to enrich itself (at our expense, of course). Perhaps this will convince Congress deputy Vicenç Vidal to leave a parliamentary group that supports the Sánchez government and move to the Mixed Group (if the MÉS per Mallorca assembly agrees, of course).
It may be that the socialists are performing an exercise in quantum politics. It is enough to remember Schrödinger's paradox, with a cat alive and dead at the same time, depending on a random quantum event... Does it not make sense? Well, neither does the PSIB's experiment.
