PalmaA dispute between two women is said to have been the trigger for the fire that on Wednesday incinerated three caravans in the Son Hugo car park, in Palma. According to the National Police investigation, the owner of the vehicle where the fire started had allegedly assaulted the partner of the suspected perpetrator, who, while receiving medical assistance, called the man to explain what had happened.
The argument between the two women allegedly motivated the man's actions, who is suspected of setting fire to the owner's caravan. According to the National Police, similar incidents had already occurred between those involved previously.
The police investigation thus points to a personal dispute as the origin of the fire, which spread rapidly to other vehicles parked nearby. The man was arrested on Wednesday evening, after the National Police Robbery Group identified him as the alleged perpetrator of the acts. The investigation remains open.
The fire burned three caravans
The fire broke out shortly before 1 p.m. and affected three motorhomes. One person suffered burns on an arm while trying to remove the vehicle from the area, while other occupants managed to get to safety and prevent the flames from spreading to more vehicles.
The Palma Fire Department extinguished the fire, which is believed to have started due to a butane cylinder. After the incident, the City Council ordered the immediate removal of butane cylinders and other flammable materials from the exterior of the caravans in Son Hugo.
