The operation was carried out jointly by the National Police and the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) of Morocco and resulted in the arrest of three people, one in Palma and two more in Tangier.

Moroccan security forces indicated that the two members of the cell detained in Morocco would be involved in the financing and logistical support of active terrorist fighters within the branches of the Daesh organization in the sub-Saharan Sahel region and in Somalia.

In this regard, the alleged leader of this cell arrested in Mallorca is linked to the planning for "the execution of a terrorist attack in Spain following the operational method of individual terrorism".
