PalmThe Technical Advisory Committee of the Balearic Islands Civil Protection Territorial Plan (Platerbal) has decided to close the roads affected this Friday by a rock and tree landslide in Esporles and has recommended that the public not access them due to potential risks. The mayor of Esporles, Josep Ferrà, reported after the Committee meeting that residents of the affected homes (which have been isolated) have also been advised not to spend the night in their properties until further assessments are made. He indicated that a new meeting will be held starting Monday to evaluate more definitive reports on the landslide. Furthermore, initial assessments indicate that given the weather forecast of rain and wind, coupled with the fact that the area is not yet stable, it is best not to take any action.

For his part, the Director General of Emergencies and Interior, Pablo Gárriz, explained that a technical assessment has been carried out and that the plan has been activated in the monitoring and support phase at the Esporles Town Hall. It should be recalled that a rock and tree landslide in Esporles has left two houses isolated, although their inhabitants are not in danger, forcing the closure of an affected road.

In response to this situation, the Government's Directorate General of Emergencies and Interior has activated level zero of the Balearic Islands Territorial Civil Protection Plan (Platerbal) to support management and coordination. According to a statement from the Ministry of the Presidency, Coordination of Government Action and Local Cooperation, the landslide of large rocks, along with several pine trees, occurred around 10:00 a.m. this Friday in the El Verger area.

Caution advised in the face of heavy rains

Given the forecast of heavy rain in the Canary Islands this weekend, the Emergency Services have asked the public to act prudently and follow recommendations. These include avoiding high-risk areas such as steep slopes, embankments, ravines, and unstable hillsides; not stopping or parking near walls, rocks, or large trees; limiting travel on mountain roads; staying away from loose stones on the road; keeping a distance from buildings in poor condition; and following the instructions of the authorities.
